Risto Agur

Risto is Attorney at Law and has been practicing law since 2003. Risto is in charge of KPMG Law Firm. His main areas of practice involve corporate law, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), banking and finance law, and real estate transactions. He has advised several of the largest and most complicated transactions in Estonia and the Baltic region, acting on behalf of local and international strategic investors, investment banks, private equity firms and other financial institutions.

Risto has been recommended as a recognised legal adviser in corporate law and M&A matters by such international publications ranking lawyers as The Legal500, Chambers Global and Best Lawyers. According to The Legal500, "Agur's ability to assess the big picture and attention to detail are invaluable". From the Chambers Global guide, clients describe him as "very pleasant and commercially smart" with a "hands-on approach." They also appreciate his ability to "take the lead on the project" and "make sure everything runs smoothly."

Prior to establishing KPMG Law Firm Risto worked at the leading regional business law firm Sorainen for 13 years where his responsibilities included heading the corporate and employment team (2006-2007) and restructuring and insolvency team (2009-2010).

Veiko-Joel Kokk

Veiko-Joel is an attorney at law whose main areas of practice are banking and finance law. Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia, Veiko-Joel worked for law firm Sorainen for a year, preceded by 14 years of work at the Bank of Estonia, where he was Head of the Legal Servicing unit and also a member of the legal team preparing the euro adoption in Estonia. Before starting office at the Bank of Estonia, he was Head of Legal at the Estonian Securities Inspectorate and Legal Counsel at Hansapank (now Swedbank).

Veiko-Joel has been involved in drafting most of the legislation in the field of finance, e.g. the Bank of Estonia Act, the Financial Supervision Authority Act, the Credit Institutions Act, the Payment Institutions and E-money Institutions Act, the Securities Market Act and the Investment Funds Act. In addition, in 2006-2013 he was a member of the Legal Committee of the European System of Central Banks. Veiko-Joel continues to act as the member of the supervisory board of the arbitration court of the NASDAQ OMX Tallinn Stock Exchange.

At KPMG Law Firm in Estonia Veiko-Joel is responsible for developing the firm's banking and finance law practice. As an experienced professional he also consults on transactions and legal matters in other fields.

Kaia Kuusler

Kaia is an experienced attorney whose main areas of practice are employment law, corporate law and contract law, specialising mostly in employment law. She advises clients on all aspects of employment law, including working conditions; concluding and terminating employment contracts; incentives, compensations and benefits; HR policies and privacy; employment disputes; employment issues in local and cross-border corporate restructurings; employee participation rules; management board member and senior executive agreements; and other complex employment law matters.

In addition to higher education in law acquired in Estonia Kaia has developed her skills and knowledge in Germany studying a semester at the University of Göttingen and practicing employment law at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, one of the largest law firms in Germany. Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia, Kaia worked forthe regional business law firm Sorainen.

Besides legal advisory practices Kaia has spoken at seminars, written numerous articles and been a co-author for several publications.

Ronald Riistan

Ronald Riistan has specialised mostly in dispute resolution. Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia Ronald worked at Antsmäe & Partners Law Office where he advised on and represented clients in various areas of law, mainly procedural law and intellectual property law matters. Ronald has graduated from the University of Tartu with a bachelor’s degree in laws and the University of Glasgow with a master’s degree in international law and security. Ronald has also participated in an ISAF mission in Afghanistan as a member of the Pioneer Batallion within the Estonian infantry brigade.

Sirli-Kristi Käpa

Sirli-Kristi has 10 years of experience working as a lawyer. At KPMG Law Firm in Estonia her main areas of practice involve corporate law, M&A, and data protection.

Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia Sirli-Kristi worked at a notary’s office, and in years 2008 to 2016 at the Legal Services of Eesti Energia AS. Sirli-Kristi has extensive experience in advising companies in their day-to-day business activities and transactions and in representing businesses in court procedures. Her expertise also involves individual as well as collective employment relationship matters and she has represented employers in negotiations and the labour dispute committee.

In addition to professional practice Sirli-Kristi has shared her knowledge and experience by running in-house training sessions covering various employment law and data protection issues.

Laura Saks

Laura has 11 years of experience working as a lawyer. At KPMG Law Firm in Estonia her main areas of practice involve IT law, data protection and intellectual property. Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia Laura worked at a notary’s office, and for last eight years at the legal department of Tallinn University of Technology.

Laura has extensive experience in advising companies and legal persons in public law in their day-to-day transactions and contract law matters mostly related to IT law, intellectual property management and rights, and data protection. Laura was also a permanent member of the expert committee on industrial property of Tallinn University of Technology, ran in-house training sessions on intellectual property and contributed to the development of data protection work procedures.

In addition to diverse professional experience Laura has continued educating herself. She holds a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law and Management from the University of Strasbourg and has attended in-service training on IT law in the University of Tartu. Thus, Laura is able to combine theoretical knowledge with practical and effective solutions.

Robert Suir

Robert is a lawyer at KPMG Law Firm in Estonia. He assists KPMG Law Firm's attorneys mostly in corporate law, M&A transactions, financial law and dispute resolution.

Prior to joining KPMG Law Firm in Estonia, Robert practiced at several organisations starting from 2012, including the Chancellery of the Riigikogu (the Parliament of Estonia) and the Ministry of Justice. Thus, he has obtained comprehensive insight into Estonian legal system. As a trainee with Estonian Lawyers' Association he provided people pro bono legal aid.

Robert was a team member representing the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu in the international European Law Moot Court competition in 2014. The team was one of the top four in the regional final in France. Robert also represented the University of Tartu in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Austria in 2015.
